This was the ninth consecutive year that the marathon was organised, with all proceeds going towards a different philanthropic organisation every year.

John Attard, on behalf of the Kingfisher Sport Fishing Association, emphasised that all anglers participating in the event were prepared to do their utmost to help children undergoing treatment for cancer.

Thirty-two anglers formed eight teams and all the fish caught were kept in nets, in one cubic metre of water. Every three hours the fish caught were weighed and set free.

Until 12pm yesterday, a total of 70 kilogrammes of fish had been captured, with the best team having a total of 19 kilogrammes.

The biggest fish caught until then was a mullet weighing 720g. The money collected in this marathon until 12pm was around Lm4,000.

Fish like mullet, sea bream, wrasse, dentex, gurnards and plaice were caught.

All fishermen yesterday had a special surprise: a breakfast given by the Westin Dragonara.
