In a statement issued yesterday, Labour MP Leo Brincat said the MLP supports the due reform of the UN. In today’s world, defining and analysing the contemporary threats to world peace and security is not enough.

The UN should find more efficient measures to respond to these threats so the temptation of unilateral politics and initiatives are lessened, said Mr Brincat. He added that although events over the past few months attempted to reduce the UN’s importance and legitimacy, the MLP believes a strong UN is a step forward toward world security and stability.

The MLP urged the government to be one of the first in line to support the UN reform so it can become stronger and more democratic and it will be equipped to deal with the challenges posed by the 21st century.
