“The meeting gave us the opportunity to discuss trade between out two countries,” he said. The minister also spoke of cooperation at a European level, taking the Lisbon agenda into consideration.

“The links that exist between Malta and France, considering the countries’ historical background, can only get stronger,” said Dr Gatt.

Minister Loos also spoke at yesterday’s press conference. He said that he and Dr Gatt were in perfect understanding on all the issues they discussed. “It is important to show that although our two countries have a high level of cooperation, this can always be raised,” he said.

The exchange of investment is vital for the relationship between Malta and France to be strengthened, he said. He went on to list the main elements he believes Malta should market for trade with France, namely, tourism, pharmaceuticals and the harbour, due to the island’s strategic position.
