Malta Independent Tuesday, 16 November 2004, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Through this charter, the office promises to issue the identity card on the same day that the client files the application. Maltese nationals who also hold another nationality will receive their identity cards within five working days, due to technical formalities.

Launching the charter, parliamentary secretary Carmelo Mifsud Bonnici explained that the Quality Service Charters are creating the right foundation for a mentality change in Malta, by which people receive a better service.

He added that service in Malta has changed so much that we are now entering an era when people expect a much better service than that which was provided a number of years ago.

He said 35 Quality Service Charters have so far been adopted. He also said that the Maltese identity card has undergone a considerable number of changes in recent years.

Since Malta joined the European Union, the Maltese identity card can be now be used as a travelling document when travelling in European Union member states.
