When Gozo Channel ferries could not operate due to recent bad weather, Gozo was cut off from the mainland since the government had decided to stop the helicopter service and no alternative was available, Dr Sant said, speaking in Xlendi. A number of tourists had been stranded in Gozo and this resulted in hotels receiving several complaints and demands for compensation, he said.

The government does not have the funds to operate a helicopter service between Malta and Gozo but, at the same time, it does have the funds for the Maltese embassy in Brussels, the failed project in Brindisi and travelling expenses.The Rural Affairs and Environment Ministry has already incurred Lm115,00 in travelling expenses this year.

The government is increasing its expenditure and burdening the people with more taxes but giving nothing to the people in return.

The manner in which the government is functioning is also hindering the creation of jobs and investment.

Dr Sant said the government had voted against the MLP’s motion on the need of a plan for economic development that safeguards social interests without submitting its own proposals.
