Thirty-seven trees were cut down at Marsa during the recent roadworks to widen the passage for rainwater in the Marsa valley.
Due permits were obtained for this work. The trees included non-indigenous ones, such as Eucalyptus, Ficus and Cypresses.
Permission was granted on condition that palm trees along with some 100 indigenous trees are planted to replace those which have been removed.
Resources and Infrastructure Minister Ninu Zammit was replying to Noel Farrugia.
