Malta Independent Tuesday, 12 April 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

Malta's representatives in next season's UEFA Intertoto Cup will be facing opponents from Serbia and Montenegro (1).

The draws for the first round were held yesterday in Nyon. The Maltese team will play the first leg at home on 18 or 19 June and the return a week later.

The winner of the tie qualifies to meet the second team from Spain (2) in the second round.

Malta is represented by the team which finishes third or fourth in the Premier League, depending on who qualifies for the UEFA Cup through the FA Trophy.

61 teams will take part in the summer competition, with a UEFA Cup place for the first three as the prize.

The draw was conducted by Thomas Büchler-De la Cruz, general secretary of the European Football Pool, and Jean Fournet-Fayard, co-opted member of the UEFA Club Competition Committee, in the presence of UEFA Chief Executive Lars-Christer Olsson.
