Man Charged with attempted murder

Malta Independent Sunday, 15 May 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

A 51-year-old Tunisian man who has been residing in Malta for the past 14 years was arraigned in court yesterday and charged with the attempted murder of Joseph Magro of Msida on Friday. Magro was slightly injured.

The man, Farhat Bouchhiouma, who works as a painter and plasterer, was also charged with dangerous driving and overspeeding, as well as relapsing.

The accused pleaded not guilty. He was not granted bail and was remanded in custody.

Duty Magistrate Lawrence Quintano presided over the Magistrates’ Court.

Police Inspector Stephen J Gatt prosecuted, while Dr Ian Farrugia assisted the accused. It seems that the accused was owed some money for work he had done for a contractor and the victim was the person who had to authorise the payments, but these payments have not been authorised yet.
