A man was yesterday accused of trying to burgle an elderly woman’s Sliema residence last Saturday afternoon.
Emanuel Attard, 52, from Zebbug, was accused of trying to commit a theft of over Lm1,000 from the home of Mary Leaver, an elderly Sliema resident, at around 5.55pm on 14 May 2005.
He was also charged with causing damage to Ms Leaver’s property and trespassing. He allegedly committed these crimes with another, as yet unnamed, person. Mr Attard was additionally accused of assaulting, threatening and slightly injuring two police officers on the same day, as well as of disobeying their orders.
Presiding magistrate Giovanni Grixti refused the accused’s request for bail and ordered that he be remanded in custody. Inspector Stephen Gatt prosecuted.
