The legendary group Gipsy Kings will be performing at the InterContinental Hotel in St Julian’s this evening. Their music is hugely popular in Malta – joyous, passionate and fuelled by the authentic spirit of traditional flamenco.
The InterContinental Malta, with the support of Vodafone, is organising a spectacular performance and dinner tomorrow in the open air by the hotel’s Panoramic Pooldeck.
Christophe Laure, general manager InterContinental Malta said: “I am very pleased with the great response we have had, in fact we are fully booked and all tickets have been sold.”
The Gipsy Kings originally were a band of 25 musicians from the ‘Reyes Family’ when they had their first concert in London. The name ‘Reyes’ was not very commercial so they changed their name to Gipsy Kings, ‘reyes’ being ‘kings’. Antoine ‘Kiko’ Motos, who originally founded the world famous group Gipsy Kings, was and still is the lead singer.
Tonight, ‘Kiko’ will be playing all his well known songs that he played with Gipsy Kings together with new releases from two exciting albums: Vive la Musica and Arte. Both showcase the kind of fiery instrumental combustion that is the result of years of non-stop touring and performing. The smouldering sound of this Latin quintet brings to mind an edgier, bolder version of gipsy music.
Mr Laure added: “We are very proud to bring Gipsy Kings to Malta. There is a lot happening during the summer months in Malta and it is fantastic that InterContinental Malta is able to contribute to such a successful cultural and artistic scene. We hope that this will be the first of many other concerts to come, which we can celebrate in true Maltese spirit.”
