Norwegian Youth band in Malta

Damsgard & Kjokkelvik Youth Band will be in Malta between today and 5 July.

Damsgard & Kjokkelvik Youth Band comes from Bergen, Norway.

The band has members from two different schools, and was originally two different bands both starting in the 1960s.

During the 1990s the bands suffered shortage of new recruits, and started cooperating. The band has since won first price in the second division at the Norwegian National Championship for youth bands in 2004.

Today the band has more than 100 members and has both a junior band and a senior band, in addition to new recruits. Over the last years the band has commissioned and played several pieces of new Norwegian music.

The musical director of the band is Sturle Berntsen

The band will be giving four concerts as follows:

Tomorrow at 7pm at Mellieha Parish Square; Friday at 8.30pm in Qormi; Saturday at 8.30pm at the Sliema ferries and on Monday at 8.30pm at Vittoriosa.
