Adrian Vassallo asked very similar questions to different ministers and obtained similar replies.

He first asked Minister Tonio Borg whether transvestites are allowed to become policemen.

Diplomatically, Dr Borg replied that any person that has the required qualifications as per the public announcement, can apply to join the Force. It is the examining board which decides, after an interview with the person, whether that person is right for the Force.

Dr Vassallo then asked the prime minister whether the army accepts homosexuals, since many countries bar such persons from joining the army.

Dr Gonzi replied that AFM do not have a policy regarding the recruitment of homosexual persons but the Army, he added, does not discriminate against such people.
