Malta Independent Thursday, 29 September 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

The UHM was following in the footsteps of its founders, Maurice Agius and Salvinu Spiteri, to become an ever-changing and dynamic union with a vision for the future, UHM president Gaetano Tanti said yesterday.

Speaking on the occasion of the union’s 39th anniversary, Mr Tanti said the UHM was proud that both Mr Spiteri and Mr Agius militated in its ranks because through their unstinting work, the union had developed into an organisation that protected thousands of workers. It had also become a national institution.

Mr Tanti said the union would continue working hard to ascertain that the country would continue taking the right decisions to attract investment that would lead to the creation of new jobs.

He called on the government to implement much needed reforms in education, health and welfare.

The UHM secretary general called for the rapid conclusion of new collective agreements for government employees, public sector employees and other companies in the private sector.
