Justin Fenech, a law student and former President of KSU, has been elected chairman of ESIB – The National Unions of Students in Europe – at ESIB’s board meeting 49 in France.
ESIB is the umbrella organisation of 44 national unions of students from 34 European countries and, through these members, represents over 11 million students.
Dr Fenech, a law student and former President of KSU, has already spent the last year working as an executive member of ESIB and has been responsible for various topics including Financing of Higher Education and E-Learning, as well as other topics related to education with regard to the EU and the Bologna and Lisbon Processes as well as with regard to Europe as a whole.
His mandate as chairman will begin on 1 January and will last for the year. The executive he will be chairing is comprised of Marja-Liisa Alop from Estonia, Maher Tekaya from France, Victor Vidilles from France, Janja Komljenovic from Slovenia, Taciana Khoma from Belarus and Sime Visic from Croatia.
KSU said it was with great satisfaction that it noted its elected candidate would be steering this high-ranking European organisation for the forthcoming year.
Two large and important projects on ESIB’s agenda of work for 2006 are Student Rights and The Training of Student Representatives to be able to better deal with the Lisbon and Bologna Processes.
