New Faces 2006

Malta Independent Saturday, 11 March 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

New Faces is an annual event that holds as its main aim the identification of new artistic talent available on our islands. New Faces 2005 proved to be a success and raised an unusual amount of interest among art aficionados and art lovers alike.

This is the second consecutive year that Gallery G has organised this wonderful event and 2006 promises to be well in line with Gallery G’s track record of building on their experience. This year, New Faces took the form of a competition, open to all, with only one entry requirement: that the candidate must never have exhibited his/her works previously.

The new budding artists are given the chance to participate in a prestigious exhibition. This is a preliminary step in a journey that every artist must embark on. Thus art enthusiasts will have the opportunity to acquire an artwork that they find attractive while simultaneously supporting the artist of their choice.

This is the support that artists need since the higher the sales level, the more confidence they build and the harder they work at developing and producing art. This undoubtedly will lead the artist to higher levels of success which in turn cause the original artwork acquired to increase in value. Call it a gamble? No! Provided that you like the artwork in question it is risk-free.

Gallery G are proud to present the shortlist of 16 from nearly 50 applicants. The 16 were selected by Gallery G’s panel of judges whose primary criterion for selection was potential. We envisage that, given a couple of years a few from among these 16 will become some of Malta’s best-known artists.

The exhibition – generously supported by Attard & Co with Namaqua wines, Gala Centre, P. Cutajar and Offset Press – will be open to the public until Friday 24 March 2006. Gallery G’s exhibition halls and gallery shop (No. 4, Sir Ugo Mifsud Street, Lija) are open to the public between 9am and 5pm on weekdays and 9.30am and 12.30pm on Saturdays.
