Jailed For car stereo theft

A Valletta man was yesterday given a prison term after pleading guilty to stealing car stereos and carrying an unlicensed weapon.

Michael Zahra, 34, pleaded guilty to stealing two car stereos from inside vehicles which were parked in Hamrun and Pieta on 30 December 2005 and 2 March 2006.

He was also accused of damaging the vehicles, breaching the conditions of a previous release, relapsing and carrying an unlicensed weapon.

The court, presided over by magistrate Saviour Demicoli, jailed the man for three and a half years and fined him Lm50 for carrying the weapon.

Police inspectors Mario Bonello and Carmelo Magri prosecuted.
