The Hospitality and Food Section of the General Workers’ Union announced that it has reached an agreement for all workers of the Milk Producers Cooperative to benefit from an increase in their salary.
The collective agreement covers a period of three years, from 1 January 2006 to 31 December 2008. Apart from providing benefits, the agreement also provides a salary increase based on a bonus of Lm26 for the first year, Lm1.50 per month for the second year and Lm1.25 per month for the third year.
The union said that changes were made to the agreement to make it conform to the industrial relations law that came into effect in 2002. New work practices were also introduced showing that the GWU is prepared to adapt itself to new realities at the workplace.
The GWU was represented by Josef Bugeja, secretary of the section and worker representatives Mario Borg and Daniel Scicluna. The cooperative was represented by Carmel Fenech and Geitu Buttigieg, both members of the central committee.
