Educational Campaign for construction workers

Malta Independent Wednesday, 24 May 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

The construction industry is a dangerous one, which is why health and safety regulations should be followed in order to reduce the risk of injury, said Infrastructure Minister Ninu Zammit yesterday.

Mr Zammit was speaking during the launch of an educational health and safety campaign targeting those who work in the industry.

The campaign, he said, will see the BICC paying visits to various construction sites in Malta and Gozo to educate workers in health and safety. Contractors and site owners have also given permission for films to be taken of workers going about their duties.

These films will be shown to the people on site with a view to pointing out the positives and negatives in their practices and the aim of achieving better safety in the workplace.

After seeing the films, workers will be given full access to BICC experts to whom they can address questions.

The initiative, said Mr Zammit, forms part of a wide campaign on health and safety at work by the BICC for the year 2006.
