It Takes Two is the title of the last concert in this series of Lunchtime Concerts, organised by the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts. Maria Eleonora and Joseph Zammit will be performing a selection of songs from well-known musicals and they will be accompanied on the piano by Maria Scicluna. The concert will be held on Wednesday 31 May 2006, at the Music Room, St James Cavalier Centre for Creativity in Valletta.
Maria Eleonora and Joseph will be interpreting extracts from popular musicals, namely from Gene De Paule’s Seven Brides and Seven Brothers, Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story, and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera. The programme also includes a duet by Giaocchino Rossini, Heiteres Duett Der Zwei Katzen, (humorous duet for two cats).
The performance starts at 12.35pm and lasts approximately 30 minutes. Maria Eleonora Zammit started singing with Sine Macula Choir at the age of 10, and became one of the founders of the Safi Parish Choir Coro Sancte Paule, where she also sang as prima voce. For the past two years, she has furthered her training in voice technique with Marie Therese Vassallo. She has sung both as a chorister and as a soloist with the Marie Therese Vassallo Voice Studio. Maria Eleonora also plays the piano, and graduated as a teacher in 2003 from the University of Malta.
Joseph Zammit started singing at an early age, having participated in school productions, and singing as a soloist in the Coro Sancte Paule Safi. He studies voice and music theory with Marie Therese Vassallo. He also forms part of the Marie Therese Vassallo Voice Studio and has performed with the group both as a chorister and soloist. In 2004, Joseph sang the baritone solo in the Missa Sancta Cecilia by G. Caruana, on the occasion of the 500th anniversary from the birth of Saint Pius V (Pope).
Maria A. Scicluna studied harmony and counterpoint with Mro Carmelo Pace and has obtained her A.Mus.LCM and L.Mus.LCM. She is also a graduate from the University of Malta obtaining a B.Ed. (Hons) degree and an MA in Baroque Studies degree. Maria also composes and orchestrates with Mro Pawlu Grech. She has accompanied various soloists during performances in instrumental examinations, as well as vocal soloists in performances during lunchtime concerts and MCI concerts.
