Six initiatives of the Investment, Industry and Information Technology Ministry were nominated for the National ICT Achievements Awards organised by the Computer Society Malta.
The awards were presented on Thursday evening.
The initiatives included the eGovernment Framework (in conjunction with EXIGY) the next step of the ambitious eGovernment programme, was nominated in the IT Project Award category.
This category was won by another initiative submitted by the ministry, eVERA. eVERA is the eGovernment service which provides a one stop shop for all drivers to renew their insurance and vehicle registration on line.
In the IT Education category, MIIIT was represented with two initiatives. The first initiative was the Student Placement Programme which targets the full time students at MCAST and the University of Malta. The initiative seeks to boost the academic and skills’ acquisition programmes at the mentioned institutions with a with a work related experience.
The second initiative was the notification of MATSEC results via SMS. MIIIT initiative MyWeb Corporate won the Information Society Award. This initiative is the deployment of the myWeb course in corporate environments. Another initiative in this category was the ICTv. This TV programme is to educate and maintain constant awareness in the community on how Internet and ICTs can contribute towards the improvement of the quality of life.
Minister Austin Gatt praised local entrepreneurs, specialists educators and administrators who were working hard to transform Malta into a regional ICT centre of excellence.
During the evening, Minister Gatt also presented the IT Company Award to 6pm Ltd and the R&D Award to X-Sketch System.
