HSBC Joins in Earth Day celebrations

Malta Independent Friday, 2 June 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

HSBC Cares For The Environment Fund has presented more than 800 cloth bags to students who attend St Paul’s Bay Primary School.

The presentation of the bags, which will help to reduce the number of plastic bags being used, formed part of an Earth Day celebration organised by the school.

The celebrations at the school included the presentation of slogans in favour of the environment. These were prepared by the students themselves together with readings of poems, performances of songs and a play written especially for the occasion.

The event was rounded off with a Xummiemu puppet show.

“What was very noticeable during the event was the appreciation these youngsters have for the environment, particularly the effect of plastic items being dumped in the sea.

The school and St Paul’s Bay local council have put in a great effort to raise awareness among these children. HSBC Cares For The Environment Fund will continue to give its full support to these initiatives,” said HSBC’s Mosta area director, Richard Mercieca.
