HSBC Dress down day supports environmental awareness broadcasts

Malta Independent Thursday, 8 June 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

As part of its World Environment Day activities, HSBC has organised a Dress Down Day. The funds raised during this activity will be used to cover the expenses incurred by the HSBC Cares For The Environment Fund (HCEF) in a project to produce and broadcast a series of one-minute television features highlighting particular environmental issues in Malta. These features are currently being broadcast on PBS on Mondays and Wednesdays immediately after the main evening news bulletin.

Three features have already been prepared, showing the dumping that has taken place at the site of the White Rocks Complex, and the negative environmental impact at Gnejna Bay in both summer and winter. The fund intends to prepare a number of other features to be broadcast later on this year.

“HSBC Cares For The Environment has taken the initiative of producing these short clips to raise awareness about certain sites which are suffering from the consequences of the irresponsible actions of certain individuals. Our aim is to encourage people to think carefully about the consequences of their actions and to raise awareness in order for these problems to be tackled. Thanks to the money raised during Dress Down Day, we’ll be able to continue and expand this project,” said Pamela Hansen, a member of the fund’s committee and producer of this initiative.

To support these features, HSBC staff made an Lm1 donation to HCEF in order to come to work in casual clothes. The bank matched the sum raised through the staff collection, bringing the total amount collected to approximately Lm3,000.
