Malta Independent Wednesday, 14 June 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

A man yesterday pleaded guilty to indecently assaulting a 21-year-old woman on a bus on Sunday afternoon.

The man from Qormi, who cannot be named by court order, was jailed for a year suspended for two after he pleaded guilty to indecently assaulting the woman on a bus in Attard. The 41-year-old man was also charged with harassing the woman when he told her things which made her feel uncomfortable.

Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera heard prosecuting officer Louise Calleja state that the man had expressed his wish that the court imposes a ban on the publication of his name.

Magistrate Scerri Herrera upheld this request and ordered a ban on the publication of the man and the victim’s names. She explained that if he committed another crime within the period of two years, he will have to spend a year in jail along with the punishment of the other crime.

Police inspector Louise Calleja prosecuted. The man was not assisted by a lawyer in court.
