Leading Concert pianist to feature in Miss Saigon Rhapsody

Miss Saigon Rhapsody and Les Miserables Symphonic Suite will be Malta Premiered in a celebrity concert entitled LesMisSaigonGuerre, at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, on 15 July. The National Orchestra will be accompanied by St Monica and Helping Hands Choirs, together with a host of celebrity pop singers under the musical direction of Joseph Grech.

Leading concert pianist, Ramona Zammit Formosa will feature in Miss Saigon Rhapsody accompanied by the National Orchestra in a brilliant arrangement of one of Schonberg’s Award Winning Musicals – Miss Saigon. Proceeds are in Aid of Id-Dar tal-Providenza.

Ramona Zammit Formosa commenced her pianoforte studies in Malta with Fay Griscti Davies LRSM, LTCL, and pursued further studies in Holland with Prof. Marcel Baudet, and in England at the London College of Music with Bryce Morrison, where she studied flute and harpsichord, obtaining performing diplomas with distinction. Ramona has premiered various Maltese compositions including Carmelo Pace’s Concertino for piano and orchestra. She has also performed his Fantasia Lirica for piano and orchestra, his Piano Concerto No. 1, and has dedicated entire recitals to this composer.

In fact, together with her husband flautist Silvio Zammit, Ramona recorded a CD consisting of Pace’s Flute and Piano works entitled Silver Landscapes. She is also featured on Divertimento, a CD of Prof Charles Camilleri’s Flute, clarinet and piano works, and together with the Gukulari Ensemble recorded two CDs, performing 18th and 19th century Malta-related compositions. In 2005, Ramona was the first Maltese to give a clavichord recital in Malta, on three clavichords built by Dr. George Debono. Besides giving recitals on piano, flute and harpsichord locally, she has performed in England, Italy, Austria, Hungary and the USA. She is a Fellow of the London College of Music and teaches piano and flute at the Johann Strauss School of Music.
