A fund of Lm1 million for post-graduate studies and more emphasis on research and development were the main points in Labour’s plan for education which received plaudits from the Kunsill Studenti Universitarji.

Speaking during a visit to Labour leader Alfred Sant, KSU President David Herrera said that it was important for the University not to become a factory of certificates and called for more synergies between the institution and the economy.

Mr Herrera said that students must be flexible and not remain confined to the limits of their courses. He also appealed for students to have an open mind when approaching into the world of work while also expressing his wish that the introduction to Labour’s plan be changed to a less partisan one.

Dr Sant said that it was worrying that Malta was in the last position as regards the EU aims on education and this happened because we are not using our resources well. He said that the Labour Party believes in dialogue and discussion with all social parties including students.
