While everyone was enjoying a day off on what is known as Sette Giugnio, 7 June was a also a day to remember for a Maltese team of hairdressers who took part in the annual Oscars della Moda in Italy.

The group went up with Claire Sciortino, Sales Manageress and Alfred Martin, Technical Director of Collis Williams Ltd.

The morning began with Claire and Alfred attending a meeting for the heads of delegation. It was with great satisfaction that the Freestyle Club by Matrix (Malta) managed to get the best fashion stylists for the Maltese hairdressers. Two of the Maltese were chosen to work with Giorgio Armani’s models while the others worked on models for Pierre Cardin and Max Mara.

In the early hours of the afternoon all the hairdressers were taken backstage to get to work. The atmosphere was great and the Maltese group immediately felt at home with the other 125 hairdressers. They all knew what styles they had to create as they had been shown the relevant pictures and so they got to work. At one time or another, all the famous names of fashion came in to check on their models and it was a very satisfying moment to see that all the Maltese had done their job to perfection!

“It was at this point that we really felt proud to be Maltese and to see our hairdressers showing off their evident talent,” said Ms Sciortino.

Giorgio Armani himself congratulated the Maltese team and showered them with words of praise. Another exciting moment was when the founder of the Freestyle Club by Matrix, Sig. Anteo Geminiani won the Oscar for the best hairstylist. When the show was over, Alfred Martin and Claire Sciortino, as representatives of Collis Williams Ltd were given the news that the Freestyle Club by Matrix (Malta) had secured their place for the Oscars Della Moda in 2007 and 2008.

“We were proud to have been part of such a great event and look forward to being there for the next two years,” the Maltese team said.
