Malta Independent Friday, 7 July 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Vodafone Malta Limited are sponsoring a concert headed by Maltese tenor Joseph Calleja which is one of this summer’s most keenly anticipated cultural events. The concert, which will take place tomorrow at Fort Manoel, will also feature the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Vasily Petrenko, Moldovan soprano Tatiana Lisnic, Russian mezzo soprano Elena Zaremba and Italian baritone Vittorio Vitelli.

“Joseph Calleja is fast becoming one of the biggest stars in the world of classical music and this concert is bound to be one of the cultural highlights of 2006. Organising a concert of this magnitude, involving so many talented musicians and singers requires a great deal of planning and money. We are happy to support this event which I am sure will be a success,” said Vodafone’s chief executive officer, Hatem Dowidar.

The sponsorship for the concert was presented by Mr Dowidar to Anton Tabone and Amabile Zammit from Renaissance Productions Limited (RPL), the organisers and promoters of the concert, in the presence of Joseph Calleja. The concert itself will feature both vocal and instrumental pieces and will include solos, duets and quartet. The music to be performed will be from operas by Bellini, Donizetti, Verdi, Puccini, Leoncavallo, Gounod, Bizet, Delibes, Massenet, Saint-Saens, Tchaikovsky and Rossini.

“Renaissance Productions Ltd has been set-up to bring the most inventive and accomplished productions and performers who have true global appeal and who deliver masterful, engaging performances each and every time. Having been encouraged by the success of the Riccardo Muti concert, we decided to embark on this new project. We are excited about the prospect of organising a concert featuring Malta’s greatest singer at one outstanding location of Manoel Island together with Malta’s leading mobile telephony operator. We are confident that the Maltese public will be offered a night to remember,” said Dr Tabone. Joseph Calleja added, “I am thrilled to be associated with both RPL and Vodafone for what will definitely be a concert to remember!”

Further details on the concert by Joseph Calleja can be obtained by sending an email to Renaissance Productions Limited on [email protected]. Details are also available on the website www. rplmalta.com. The last few remaining tickets may be purchased from St James Cavalier, Valletta.
