Restoration works on Envin Cremona’s painting, which last week fell from the Balzan Parish Church dome, will start thanks to a contribution from the HSBC Cares for Malta’s Heritage Fund.
The canvas painting was severely damaged when it crashed to the floor in several pieces. Restoring the work of art is being estimated to cost Lm20,000. Towards this end, the HSBC Cares for Malta’s Heritage Fund is donating the amount of Lm1,000 in an effort to kick-start the Church’s restoration fund.
“Not only will restoration works on the painting be given a push, but HSBC’s generous donation will also go towards preventive measures to ensure that the same fate does not befall other paintings in the Church’s dome,” said Fr Kalcidon Vassallo, parish priest of Balzan Parish Church.
“This particular painting by Envin Cremona is one example of the numerous and invaluable paintings by Maltese artists that adorn our Churches.
HSBC believes in a commitment to preserve such a patrimony and hopes that other individuals and entities will follow suit in helping Balzan Parish Church restore such a treasure,” said David Demarco, CFO at HSBC Bank Malta.
