HSBC is taking a front line role in helping Malta increase the number of ICT professionals. In collaboration with the Ministry of Investment, Information Technology and Industry, HSBC introduced the myPotential Package.
This new product offers students, graduates and other individuals the opportunity to borrow money at preferential rates in order to attend one of the myPotential ICT courses which have just been launched by the ministry.
One of the most innovative aspects of this new package is its availability to persons who are unemployed. HSBC and the government, in fact, have reached an agreement whereby the latter will act as guarantor on loans for the unemployed. This will give those not currently in employment access to the opportunity to learn ICT skills and gain certification. Unemployed persons who apply for the myPotential package will also benefit from a 1 year moratorium on all repayments.
Students, Graduates and other individuals will be eligible to apply to obtain unsecured financing at preferential rates, with students also having the option of a two year capital repayment moratorium at the start of the loan, thus extending its term to seven years from the normal five year term.

The bank will continue to work closely with the Government and other entities such as Malta Enterprise, Chamber of Commerce and the Malta Stock Exchange, in a joint effort to prepare Malta for the economic challenges and opportunities which lie ahead,” said HSBC’s head of personal financial services, Godfrey Swain.
