A 21-year-old man yesterday pleaded guilty to stealing more than Lm1,000 in cash from the supermarket where he worked.

Clint Borg, from Rabat, pleaded guilty to stealing the cash from Mollu Supermarket in Dingli, to the detriment of Joseph Gauci.

The court heard how the accused, who worked at the supermarket, had a drug problem and used to steal about Lm40 a day to finance the drug habit.

He now claims he is off drugs.

Before magistrate Joseph Apap Bologna, the accused pleaded guilty to the charges brought against him.

The court was informed that the accused had paid back the stolen money.

Defence counsel Patrick Valentino asked the court to consider a suspended sentence.

Magistrate Apap Bologna granted Borg bail on condition that he appears in court on Monday when his judgement will be handed down.

Police inspector Mario Tonna prosecuted.

Dr Patrick Valentino appeared in legal aid.
