Marilyn Hodgson, a Scottish sculptor residing in Malta, will be presenting a live demonstration of modelling in clay during the open air sculpture exhibition which is currently on display in Freedom Square, Valletta.
This square, which has been transformed into a sculpture garden and performance space purposely for this year’s edition of the Malta Arts Festival – Summer 2006, allows the public to watch Marilyn demonstrating the development of a portrait head using a live model. She will be present on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays (evenings) throughout the festival which runs till 20 August.
“I would like to extend my appreciation to the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts for giving me this opportunity. Visitors will be able to enjoy my work in progress and the use of form, light, energy and emotion,” said the artist, Marilyn Hodgson.
Born in Edinburgh, Marilyn Hodgson studied art in Dundee, and received a diploma in sculpture in 1974. She won the Helen Ottilie Wallace Award Fund Prize accorded by the Royal Scottish Academy for the most promising work by a Scottish sculptor. She moved to Switzerland and lived there for 27 years continuing her studies and works in drawing and painting. She has participated in various exhibitions showing works in photography, drawings and sculpture.
She has been living in Malta for the last three and a half years, and her move here has brought a return to her great love, sculpture, especially the vigorous, vibrant portrayal of the human condition captured by a particular rugged technique which she has developed over the years.
