The MSPCA has sounded the alarm over dead animals being dumped in open fields, calling it cruel, illegal, and dangerous.
It said, in a post on social media, that "abandoning dead animals violates Malta's Animal Welfare and Environmental Health laws," and said that offenders face fines and prosecution.
It also underlined that dumping dead animals is a health risk.
"Rotting carcasses spread disease, contaminate land and water, and attract vermin - endangering wildlife, pets, and people."
There are legal disposal methods, it said. "Respect life, even in death. Use licensed vets or environmental services - never dump."
The MSPCA is demanding stronger law enforcement, clearer disposal guidance and more public awareness about the issue.
"If you see illegal dumping, report it to Animal Welfare or ERA. Protect our land. Respect all life."
