British Airways will be launching a new direct service from Manchester to Salzburg this winter.

From December there will be four flights a week between the UK’s “second capital” and the enchanting city of Salzburg, operated by BA Connect franchise partner GB Airways.

Flights will operate on Monday, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday departing from Salzburg at 11.20am and returning from Manchester at 7.10am.

During the peak periods (over Christmas and mid February) a fifth service will be introduced to cope with the expected demand.

Phil Jones, international sales manager GB Airways, said: “As well as being the birthplace of Mozart, Salzburg is probably just as famous in the UK for providing the spectacular backdrop for the Sound of Music film, and is certainly high on travellers’ lists of places to visit.

“On the other hand, for customers in Austria, Manchester is probably mostly known for being home to the football club Manchester United and a visit to Old Trafford, the famous football stadium, is well worth it.

“Manchester is a very dynamic city, famous for its choice of fabulous restaurants and nightlife alongside a wealth of shopping areas.

“Our Austrian customers should make the most of this before Christmas and during the January sales.”
