An Expression of Sicilian wines

Malta Independent Monday, 9 October 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

Wands Limited, together with Tasca D’Almerita representative, Antonio Virando, held a wine tasting event at the Hotel Juliani for all members of the trade.

During the event, export brand manager of Tasca D’Almerita, Mr Antonio Virando, gave a good insight about the Regaleali estate located in the mountainous heart of Sicily. Regaleali is a world unto itself: a vast estate owned by the Tasca d’Almerita family since 1837 and best known for its fine wines and for its cooking school.

Sicily’s viticultural roots are some of the world’s most ancient, as the area supported vines as far back as the fifth century BC. Today, Regaleali is a model estate, producing over 200,000 cases of wine annually in one of the world’s most modern and advanced wineries.

During the wine tasting event Antonio Virando described in detail the two flagship wines of the house: Rosso del Conte and Nozze d’Oro. Rosso del Conte was created in the early 1970’s elevating the quality of the native Nero d’Avola grape with modern winemaking techniques, and could be considered the “father” of the modern Sicilian top-notch reds. In fact, Rosso Del Conte has been newly awarded I Tre Bicchieri award by Gambero Rosso.

More details about these wines available at the Wands Cash and Carry outlet in Qormi on tel: 2123-2121/4.

Tasca D’Almerita wines are imported, marketed and distributed by Wands Limited, a subsidiary company of the Farsons Group of Companies.
