Malta Independent Monday, 9 October 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

City Gate will be lit up with an illumination by the Italian Gaspare di Caro on the occasion of Notte Bianca – Lejl Imdawwal on Saturday. The cinematic group, Kinemastik, will also be presenting a series of cinematic projections entitled Street of Crocodiles at the City Lights Cinemas in St John’s Street, Valletta. Entrance is free.

City Gate will be glistening with artistic light installation from 7.45pm on Saturday till 6am on Sunday. Gaspare di Caro is creative artist from Sicily whose technique is somewhat similar to that of painting in the use of the colours and light. The goal is to highlight the architectural qualities of City Gate with a “mask of light”, giving it an extraordinary impression of mystery and magnificence.

From 6pm till 6am, Kinemastik will be showing 12 hours of cinematic projections at City Lights Cinemas which will be face-lifted for the occasion. The selection includes various cinematic works that are not usually shown in a commercial cinema or on television due to their non-commercial nature. Many of them are produced, written and directed by artists often indirectly involved with cinema.

Kinemastik is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation that organises activities targeted to celebrate diversity and the spirit of difference and raise awareness among audiences for the fundamental role that culture plays. Kinemastik also aims to enhance the opportunities of young people to fully explore and utilise their creative powers in various cultural fields.
