Live Nativity Scene ‘U ghammar Fostna’

Malta Independent Sunday, 10 December 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

Christmas is not only the time for parties and presents, because its true meaning is that we relive the birth of our Saviour. Therefore, teenagers who form the group “The Guiding Light” in the Jesus of Nazareth church are once again organising a live nativity scene. This requires a lot of work and preparation and the teenagers have been working on the project since the end of September. The aim of this nativity scene and the group itself is not the reproduction of the nativity story. The true aim lies in the message one gets when visiting the nativity scene. Visitors are encouraged to pay attention and listen to all that is said during the commentary, which this year deals with the power of the Holy Spirit.

In the live nativity scene people of different ages are dressed as different biblical personalities in a typical natural Jewish environment. A visit lasts approximately 15 minutes.

The nativity scene is in Mannar Street exactly next to the Church of Jesus of Nazareth in Xaghra on the left hand side. Entrance is free. Opening hours are: Sunday 24 qDecember (after procession with Baby Jesus); Monday 25 December: 3 to 9p.m; Tuesday 26 December: 6 to 9pm; Friday 29 December: 6 to 9pm; Saturday 30 December: 6 to 9pm; Sunday 31 December: 3 to 6pm; Monday 1 January 2007: 3 to 9pm.
