The Ta’ Qali national stadium was full to the brim yesterday evening as Milan’s training camp in Malta came to an end with a friendly game against Maltese champions Birkirkara, a match that the Italian giants handsomely won 5-0.
Maltese Milan supporters had the chance of a lifetime to watch their favourite players at close range, and were only too happy to see their team score five goals in a rather one-sided match, although Birkirkara had their own chances to level the score when Milan were still leading 1-0 in the opening stages of the second half.
Yet the result was the least important factor in a game that brought to a close Milan’s one-week stay on the island, a visit that once again brought to the fore Malta’s great hospitality, which did not go unnoticed by the Italian club.
The visit was also good publicity for Malta, with Italian media giving ample coverage of the event.
