Court: Tunisian Jailed for handling stolen goods

A Tunisian man was yesterday jailed for one year after pleading guilty to handling stolen property.

Tarek Ayari, 32, of St Paul’s Bay, pleaded guilty to handling stolen property, consisting of a handbag containing a mobile phone, cash and other personal items on 27 November 2005.

He also pleaded guilty to supplying the police with false information with regard to his particulars. The court, presided over by magistrate Saviour Demicoli, sentenced the accused to one year’s imprisonment with time spent in preventive custody to be deducted from that term.

Police inspector Geoffrey Azzopardi prosecuted while Dr Martin Fenech appeared for the accused.
