Man Charged with breaching bail conditions

Malta Independent Thursday, 15 March 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

A man who was in January accused of threatening his wife and mother of his three children and his parents-in-law during a family argument yesterday ended up in court again, accused of breaching his bail conditions.

Charles Brincat, 26, from Tarxien, was originally accused of threatening his wife Ritienne as well as Carmen and Angelo Camilleri at their home in Birkirkara. The court heard how Mr Brincat and his wife had argued at their family home in Tarxien. Mrs Brincat packed up and left and went to her parents’ home. Mr Brincat followed her and allegedly threatened his wife and her parents with a knife.

Mr Brincat was also accused of threatening to kill Mrs Brincat and the Camilleris, breaching the peace and being in possession of a sharp and pointed instrument without having a licence issued by the Police Commissioner. This case is still ongoing but Mr Brincat was granted bail and ordered not to approach Tarxien and Birkirkara and to stay away from his wife and his in-laws.

But yesterday, the police once again charged Mr Brincat in court, this time with breaching his bail conditions when he allegedly damaged the front door of his Tarxien house where his wife is living with his children.

Before Magistrate Joseph Apap Bologna, Mr Brincat pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him. He was refused bail and was remanded in custody.

Police Inspector Kevin Farrugia prosecuted while Dr Ludwig Caruana appeared for the accused.
