If one had to put together six very good and talented friends such as Jean Marc, Rachel, Krista, Francis, Joe and Francesca, and leave them alone for a couple of hours close to any structure which vaguely resembled a stage, the result would be something most certainly involving theatre, a lot of song and even some dance. As Drama Troupe teachers and young upcoming performers, the gang of six are now putting together what promises to be an exciting evening of wonderful song and dance. The idea behind this revue was that of re-staging some of the best moments from past Drama Troupe productions, previewing some possible future productions and performing some of the group’s favourite songs.
Jean Marc is presently teaching at a language school until he begins a musical theatre course at the GSA Conservatoire. His past credits include The Goat, Audacity, The Old Befana, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and Into the Woods.
Jean Marc will be joined in Guildford by talented singer Rachel Fabri. Rachel has successfully passed her Grade Eight singing exam, and has also performed in Into The Woods, The Old Befana and West Side Story.
Fresh from her performance in Company and before that, West Side Story, Krista Paris is making quite a name for herself in musical theatre. She very capably juggles her time as an archaeology student and doing as much as she can both on stage and off.
Joe Gatt is a first-year law student, as well as a gifted pianist who is working hard to obtain his diploma. Joe joined Drama Troupe some years back and like Jean Marc, Francesca and Krista performed in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe in 2000. Following that, he performed in The Little Mermaid, Into the Woods, West Side Story as well as The King and I.
Francis Ghersci is a Communications student. Another cast member of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Francis’ most recent role was in West Side Story. He has participated in various musicals, including The King and I.
Last but not least is Francesca Aquilina who is on scholarship studying singing in Edinburgh. She has performed roles in several musical productions, such Into The Woods and West Side Story. At the moment, she is rehearsing to play the part of Belinda in Dido and Aeneas in Edinburgh.
The show put together by this group is called Song. Six friends, six characters, six performers will take you on a journey through the land of musical theatre, sharing their stories of passion, friendship, comedy and tragedy.
All six have at some time or another been trained by Drama Troupe Vocal Coach Gillian Zammit, so you are assured an evening of top-notch singing. They will be joined by Valentina Lattughi, another Drama Troupe teacher and Advanced ballet student at the Dance Workshop, who will be performing her own choreography to one of the musical numbers.
Advanced Drama Troupe students Christina Aquilina – also an advanced ballet student at the Dance Workshop – and Chris Agius Darmanin, will be performing together with various students from Drama Troupe Musical Theatre School.
It promises to be an evening of great song, great fun and great entertainment for all the family.
Performances will be held at the Centenary Theatre in Kappara on the 12, 13 and 14 April.
