Liberian Arrested at airport

A Liberian man was yesterday arrested by the police after he was found to have swallowed a number of capsules containing cocaine, police said.

The 32-year-old man, who holds a Dutch passport, resides in England. He had just landed at the Malta International Airport on Thursday afternoon when he was singled out by Customs officials after he started acting suspiciously during searches conducted on various passengers. He has just landed from a flight arriving from London.

He was escorted to St Luke’s Hospital where it was ascertained that he had swallowed a number of capsules containing cocaine.

Duty Magistrate Dr Giovanni Griscti appointed various experts to help him conduct an inquiry. The man was kept under arrest and will be arraigned in court in the coming days.

Police investigations are still under way.
