Malta Independent Saturday, 5 May 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

A man was injured yesterday morning when the building on which he was working in Qawra collapsed.

The police said the man, a 69-year-old from St Julian’s, was caught in the cabin of the crane he was operating when part of the building collapsed and stones fell onto the crane.

The man had to be helped out of the cabin by passers-by as well as personnel from the Civil Protection Department.

The man was taken to St Luke’s Hospital, where he was treated for the injuries he had sustained and was kept in for observation.

The police said another worker who was close by on the same construction site had only suffered from shock. The incident took place in Triq il-Merluzz in Qawra.

Duty magistrate Jacqueline Padovani was informed about the case and appointed a number of court experts to assist her with the magisterial inquiry.

Police investigations are still under way.
