More Round One squads have been played in the Malta Open Championships at the SuperBowl. Malta's Ray Falzon Reale is now in third place in the Men's division, while Brian Farrugia has slipped to thirteenth, but is still very much in the reckoning. Two time Malta Open Champion Sue Abela is currently ninth in the very competitive ladies section.
Falzon Reale’s excellent 12-game total of 2837 places him equal with new World Ranking Masters Champion, Stu Williams from England, but the latter takes the higher position due to the 'highest last game' tie-breaker rule. Brian Farrugia is still guaranteed to qualify for Round two in style in spite of slipping to ninth place with his 2670 effort. Mark Wells (England) still narrowly leads the men's field on 2852 pins.
Sue Abela will be looking to improve on her 2467 Round One total, although that tally puts her in ninth place at the moment, a cert to qualify with the top 36 ladies for round two. Swede Elenor Haneskar tops the ladies classifications with an excellent 2594 total (216 ave).
Yesterday evening's qualifying ‘Squad F’ saw the first ever perfect 300 game to be played by a female bowler in Malta. The dream game was bowled by European Championship gold medallist Mai Ginge Jensen from Denmark.
