BOV Appoints new chief officer – Financial Markets and Investments

Charles Borg has been appointed chief officer, Financial Markets and Investments, of Bank of Valletta with effect from 17 August. He takes over from Tony Camilleri, who has retired. The required regulatory procedures regarding this appointment are on course.

The business areas for which Mr Borg will be responsible in his new role include the bank’s Treasury Operations, Investment and Performance Management, Investment Banking and Custody, Fund Management & Administration and Personal Wealth Management. As a chief officer, he will also be a member of the bank’s Executive Committee.

Mr Borg joined the bank in 1981 and held a number of key senior executive positions within the organisation. He was a key player in the setting up of Valletta Fund Management in 1995 and served as its general manager between October 1999 and January 2005.

He served as president of the Institute of Financial Services (Malta) between 2000 and 2004.

For the past three years, Mr Borg occupied the post of Executive Head at the CEO’s Office and was secretary to the bank’s Executive Committee. During this period, he led the broad based, externally focused, strategic review highlighting new business opportunities for the BOV Group to enable it take full advantage of Malta’s rapid development as a financial centre.
