Last Day of mosaic exhibition by Christian Urpani

Malta Independent Saturday, 1 September 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

The Villa Brasserie in Balluta Bay is hosting the latest mosaic exhibition by Christian Urpani, featuring pieces in different rich colours.

Christian creates intriguing mosaics by using unlikely combinations of materials and textures to elicit a detailed design. Using fine material like smalti, gold, marble, vitreous glass and ceramic, his latest works display some of the new techniques he has developed. He brings into play texture and light to create countless reflections and refractions, in contrast with the flat harshness of natural materials like granite. Christian hand-cuts each piece to achieve flowing shapes and three-dimensional patterns, at times coming to an unusual point-of-view.

This is not the first time that Christian is featuring his art at Le Méridien St Julian’s. Exhibitions were held last year in the foyer of the conference and banqueting area and earlier this year at the Villa Brasserie. Christian has recently also opened a new gallery in Canon Road, St Venera.

Today is the last day to see this exhibition between 10am and 12.30pm and in the evening from 5.30pm to 10pm at Villa Brasserie, level 1. The mosaics are available for purchase. Visitors have the opportunity to have dinner at the Villa Brasserie, taste the sumptuous summer menu and view the exhibition.
