The Malta Chamber of Commerce and Enterprise expresses its satisfaction at the announced initiatives for the regeneration of the Grand Harbour.

Chamber president Victor A. Galea was invited to the official launch of the 20 proposals, varying from quay extensions; new marinas; new promenades; new hotel; restoration projects and afforestation which the government is proposing for the whole Grand Harbour area – from Valletta to Rinella.

He said that the chamber is naturally in favour of these initiatives as these will contribute to further Malta’s economic momentum, especially in tourism niches such as yachting, cruise liners etc.

“Another very important aspect which has been included in the proposals is the enhancing of operations in the commercial aspect of the port, which is of paramount importance for the business community,” added the chamber president.

Mr Galea concluded that the regeneration proposals for the Grand Harbour will also bring about an increased economic activity, new employment opportunities and overall better environment for the area.

“The chamber looks forward to the enactment of these proposals in the near future, for all those involved to start reaping the benefits. One hopes that on this important issue there is political consensus as the chamber is aware that the MLP is currently consulting various organisations on its own plan for the regeneration of Grand Harbour.”
