Much has been said and written of the Eighties, with the hipsters on one side dissing the decade while the more broad-minded acknowledge its significance as much as they disregard its cheesier instances, of which, it has to be said, there was a lion’s share! The selection on offer here represents a relatively definitive picture of the lighter, and often trashier side of the era, which is after all the music that usually ended up being played in most clubs back then anyway! With these songs playing in the background, you’ll definitely be taken back to the time when mullets where ‘in’, synths took over the world and ‘kitsch’ was king!

The larger part of the sixty featured tracks – spread over three discs – are of course the cheesier cuts; from Miami Sound Machine’s Dr. Beat (recently revived by Mylo), Kenny Loggins’ Footloose and Kylie Minogue’s I Should Be Lucky to Sister Sledge’s Frankie, Toni Basil’s Mickey and Sinitta’s So Macho; but the third disc does offer some musical relief thanks to beefier hits from the likes of Grace Jones, Fine Young Cannibals, Dexys Midnight Runners, Communards, Beastie Boys and Grandmaster Flash. In line with the main theme behind this collection – the ultimate 80’s party experience – the selection does pretty much what is says on the box and will almost certainly appeal to a wide audience! I’m hoping for a Rock 80’s and an Alternative 80’s collection to complete the picture!
