Preparations are under way for the drama Hati Ghax Habb by All For One Productions being held on 29 and 30 September at 6.30pm at the Catholic Institute in Floriana. This play is directed by Frederick Camilleri, while the script was written by the Anthony Buttigieg.
The story deals with the life of Saint Thomas More who was Chancellor of England. Not for a moment did he think of giving up his beliefs to please the king. When King Henry VIII was left without an heir as his wife Catherine only bore baby girls, Parliament gave its approval to the king’s divorce and Henry married Anne Boleyn. The Pope did not accept the divorce and in 1534 the king declared himself head of the Church of England.
Saint Thomas More refused to approve the king’s actions and as result was locked up in the Tower of London. However, he preferred to suffer for his beliefs. He kept strong in his way of life until he was found guilty because he loved the One who was worth everything (Hati Ghax Habb). He was executed on July 6, 1535.
While writing this emotional drama the author often reflected on present-day situations so that the past is amalgamated with modern life with the aim of raising many questions.
Thanks to May Vassallo, the costume designer, and the hardworking backstage team, the environment of the 15th century has been recreated.
