More than 13,000 hits were registered on the euro web portal for students and teachers, www.skola.gov.mt/euro, since it was introduced in mid-July, according to statistics issued by the National Euro Changeover Committee (NECC).
The committee brought the portal in on 20 July and by last Friday, a total of 13,198 hits were registered on the site, which is intended to facilitate understanding of the euro.
The statistics show that over the three months, 10,579 people were unique visitors to the website, while the remaining 2,619 were returning visitors.
The web portal includes five games targeted at children of different ages; its main aim is to expose students to euro coins, although its designers also took into consideration other curricular aspects – mathematical and geographical issues, as well as social and healthy eating.
The portal also includes tips for teachers, information on the single European currency and the eurozone, as well as a countdown clock showing the number of days left before Malta adopts the euro on 1 January.
