Gozo was and would remain central to Labour Party policy, MLP leader Alfred Sant told a social activity organised by the Labour Party district committee in Gozo yesterday.
The MLP knew there was a Nationalist majority in Gozo, Dr Sant said. But Gozo would remain central to MLP policy because it needed to progress. Because the Nationalist government knew it had a majority in Gozo, it was neglecting the Gozitans, by for instance spending much less in capital expenditure than it would have voted, by reducing services, not creating employment and neglecting tourism and industry.
Dr Sant said the MLP’s behaviour towards Gozo would not be one of electoral opportunism. Gozo could be a vibrant island but unfortunately today many young Gozitans were not finding work there.
Not enough full-time jobs were being created in the country and many were turning to part time work as their main job. Labour would renew its commitment to a full strategy for Gozo all the time, not just on the eve of an election, to create jobs.
